We're looking for an experienced Product Manager to work on the HR & Payroll domain services at Sage - platform capabilities that power Sage's own applications as well as a growing ecosystem of external partners.

This is a platform product role, not a feature delivery role. You'll be thinking in terms of APIs, reusable services, and scalable architecture and you'll be building for a broad set of personas: Sage product teams, accountants, partners, and developer communities. Compliance is central to the domain, and your ability to anticipate regulatory and technical shifts and build them into the roadmap.

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per week in our Newcastle office.

First 90 Days

• 30 Days: Get to grips with the existing payroll domain services: their architecture, current roadmap, partner integrations, and the internal and external customers who depend on them. Build relationships with Engineering, Data, Compliance, and GTM colleagues, and begin understanding the partner and developer ecosystem you'll be serving.

• 60 Days: Begin contributing actively to the HR & Payroll services roadmap, supporting your manager in shaping and evolving priorities - balancing compliance requirements, partner needs, platform scalability, and growth outcomes. Engage directly with partners and customers to validate assumptions and identify gaps. Begin briefing requirements into the team with well-defined, measurable outcomes.

• 90 Days: Contributing to the embedded payroll services roadmap end-to-end. Compliance priorities are sequenced and understood by the team. Partner and internal product team relationships are established. You have a clear point of view on where AI can drive productivity improvements - both in how the team works and in the services you're building - and that thinking is reflected in your roadmap.

Meet the Team

You'll join the HR & Payroll Services Product Management team, working in close partnership with Engineering, Data, Compliance, and Go-to-Market colleagues. The embedded nature of the services means your stakeholder map is broad: you'll work with internal Sage product teams who consume your APIs, external partners who embed your services in their own offerings, and the accountant and developer communities.

This is a cross-functional, influence-led role in a domain where the stakes are high - payroll and compliance errors have real consequences for real businesses. You'll be expected to combine strong product instincts with regulatory awareness and a genuine understanding of the platform landscape.

How Success Will Be Measured

• Adoption, revenue, and retention growth across embedded payroll services

• Quality and clarity of the roadmap - measurable outcomes, well-sequenced priorities, and strong alignment with compliance requirements

• Partner and internal product team satisfaction with the services and the collaboration

• Clear feature briefs to enable a timely and well-scoped delivery in partnership with Engineering and Data teams

• Product-led growth metrics: usage and value realisation of features and services shipped

Qualifications

Essential

• Minimum 3 years of product management experience, preferably within HR, payroll, or a related compliance-heavy domain

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills - able to interpret data, regulatory requirements, and customer insight to make well-reasoned product decisions

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical audiences

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and workstreams in a fast-paced environment

• A genuine interest in AI and how advances in technology can be applied to improve both product capability and team productivity

Preferred

• Experience working with APIs, integrations, platform services, partner ecosystems, or embedded software

• Familiarity with compliance and regulatory requirements in payroll, tax, or employment law across one or more markets

• Experience with product-led growth approaches and usage-driven prioritisation
