Join us as a Software Engineer at Barclays, helping to shape and evolve our technology platforms through robust engineering practices and collaborative delivery. We're looking for an experienced engineer with a passion for Java development, test automation, technical leadership, and Agile ways of working.

To be successful as a Software Engineer, you should have the following essential skills:

  • Java, Spring Boot & Automated Testing: Ample experience building and supporting production-ready applications, REST APIs, SQL databases, and robust automated testing frameworks.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentoring: Proven ability to lead multi-faceted technical delivery, mentor engineers, conduct effective code reviews, and communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Agile Delivery: Experience delivering iterative solutions in Agile environments, translating business requirements into scalable technical outcomes while adapting to changing priorities.

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Technical – Event-driven architecture / messaging: Experience with Kafka/RabbitMQ/event sourcing patterns; can design systems that scale beyond request-response
  • Cloud-native deployment and infrastructure: Docker/Kubernetes, Infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipeline design. Understanding of containerisation trade-offs, deployment strategies.
  • Security-first mindset: Experience implementing authorisation and authentication capabilities, input validation, awareness of data sensitivity and general secure coding practices. Ability to catch security issues in design and code review.
