Job Description

We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support the day-to-day processing of payroll for the organization, with a strong focus on time entry, data entry, and administrative payroll tasks. This is an entry-level role well suited to a detail-oriented individual who is organized, comfortable working with confidential information, and eager to build a foundation in payroll administration. Working primarily in Workday, the Payroll Specialist ensures time sheets, employee data, and payroll records are accurate, complete, and submitted on time, helping the payroll team deliver accurate and timely pay to employees. This position will be full-time and remote.

What You’ll Do

  • Enter and update payroll and timekeeping data in Workday accurately and on schedule

  • Review employee timesheets for completeness and accuracy, flagging missing or incomplete entries

  • Monitor timesheet submission deadlines and follow up with employees and managers on missing or late entries

  • Assist with auditing payroll data prior to each pay run to catch discrepancies before submission

  • Help maintain accurate employee payroll records, including tax forms, direct deposit information, and personal data changes in Workday, including employment verifications and wage report requests

  • Respond to routine employee questions about timesheets, pay, and payroll policies, escalating complex issues as needed

  • Assist with filing, document management, and other general administrative tasks for the payroll department

  • Support year-end processes, including W-2 preparation, with other payroll team members

  • Follow established procedures to maintain compliance with company policy and applicable wage and hour regulations

  • Maintain strict confidentiality of employees and payroll information at all times

What You'll Need

Required

  • 1–2 years of experience in payroll, HR, accounting, or related administrative work (internships or coursework considered)

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in human resources, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred

  • Strong attention to detail and comfort working with high volumes of data entry

  • Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet recurring deadlines

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and integrity

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

  • Willingness to learn payroll regulations, wage and hour basics, and company policy

Preferred

  • Prior exposure to Workday or another HRIS/payroll system

  • Basic knowledge of payroll concepts (gross-to-net pay, deductions, timekeeping) from coursework or prior work experience

Physical Demands

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions

  • Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

  • Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor

$40,000 - $50,000 per year

The pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role receive paid time off and may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
